Anti-Aging Supplements Do They Help?

Sometimes Living A Happy And Healthy Life Takes A Little Effort

Anti-Aging Supplements Do They Help?

Ever since the early 1500’s when Ponce de León landed in Florida and thought he discovered the fountain of youth, people have searched for their own fountain of youth. Aging, which can be defined as the “time-related deterioration of the physiological functions necessary for survival and fertility,” is a process that most people would like to slow.

People can do common sense things like eating right, exercising, not smoking or drinking alcohol, but you have to start doing those things when you are in your 20’s if you want to see the benefits.

Take me for instance, if you have been following me for some time you know that in my early life health was the farthest thing from my mind. I smoked, I drank, I didn’t eat healthy meals and got little sleep because of my partying ways, in other words, I was a party animal. But for the past 8 years or so I have made up for those days and I have become a bit of a health nut.

But there are so many things available these days to help you look younger if that is your goal, a little nip and tuck come to mind. But if that is not your thing, there are many supplements available.

Scientists have identified a large number of substances that have anti-aging properties, many of which can be taken as supplements by those looking for natural ways to decelerate the aging process and prevent age-related disease.

Here is a list of some of the anti-aging supplements available.

1. Curcumin. Curcumin — the main active compound in turmeric — has been shown to possess powerful anti-aging properties, which are attributed to its potent antioxidant potential.
2. EGCG. Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) is a well-known polyphenol compound concentrated in green tea. It offers impressive health benefits, with research supporting its use to reduce the risk of certain cancers, as well as other health conditions like heart disease
3. Collagen. Collagen is promoted as a fountain of youth for its potential to reduce the appearance of skin aging.
4. CoQ10. Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is an antioxidant that your body produces. It plays essential roles in energy production and protects against cellular damage
5. Nicotinamide riboside and nicotinamide oligonucleotide.  Nicotinamide riboside (NR) and nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN) are precursors to nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+).

NAD+ is a compound found in every cell in your body and involved in many critical processes, including energy metabolism, DNA repair, and gene expression

6. Crocin. Crocin is a yellow carotenoid pigment in saffron, a popular, pricey spice that’s commonly used in Indian and Spanish cuisine.

7. Theanine. L-theanine is an amino acid concentrated in certain teas, including green tea. It may help protect against mental decline and has been shown to extend the lifespan of roundworms by around 5% (35Trusted Source36Trusted Source).

8. Rhodiola. This medicinal plant has potent anti-inflammatory and anti-aging properties. One study in fruit flies demonstrated that treatment with Rhodiola Rosea powder led to a 17% increase in their lifespan, on average (37Trusted Source38Trusted Source).

9. Garlic. Garlic has powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Test-tube and rodent studies have shown that supplementing with this bulb may prevent UV-light-induced skin aging and wrinkles (39Trusted Source).

10. Astragalus. Astragalus membranaceus is a stress-reducing herb used in traditional Chinese medicine. It may help combat aging by reducing oxidative stress, promoting immune function, and preventing cellular damage (40Trusted Source).

11. Fisetin. Fisetin is a flavonoid compound that’s considered a chemotherapeutic, meaning it can kill senescent cells. Rodent studies suggest that it may reduce the number of senescent cells in tissues and extend lifespan (41Trusted Source).

12. Resveratrol. Resveratrol is a polyphenol in grapes, berries, peanuts, and red wine that may promote longevity by activating certain genes called sirtuins. It has been shown to increase the lifespan of fruit flies, yeasts, and nematodes (42Trusted Source).

Just to let you know these are supplements there are those who swear by them and others who say they don’t work. The choice is yours.
